Controlled Substances
Q: Can I order a controlled substance?
A: A medication that is listed as a "Schedule II Controlled Substance" by the U.S. Drug
Enforcement Agency (DEA), such as a morphine-like or amphetamine-like drug, may not be ordered
online or approved over the phone.
If you would like your prescription shipped to you, you must mail the original prescription including the patient's name and address to Walgreens, along with the Printable Walgreens.com Prescription Order Form. The form indicates the mailing address where the form and prescription should be sent. Each time you need a Schedule II Controlled Substance filled, a new, written prescription from your physician is required, and a signature will be needed upon delivery. Your order will ship within two weeks from the date you mail in your original prescription order.
To order a prescription of a Schedule II Controlled Substance at your local Walgreens
pharmacy, the original prescription must be presented at the pharmacy. We're sorry, but
Walgreens.com cannot process orders of Schedule II Controlled Substances for in-store pickup.
Please call a Customer Service Representative toll-free, at 1-877-250-5823 if you have any
further questions.

Biohazard Disposal
Q: How do I dispose lancets, syringes and "sharps" safely?
A: Sharps items include needles and lancets, as well as broken glass, razor blades, and any
other devices capable of cutting or piercing the skin. Disposal of sharps can be dangerous if
not done correctly. Every year more than 1 million accidental needle sticks are reported, and
it is estimated that an additional 66 percent per year go unreported. You can do your part to
help prevent accidental needle sticks by following a few simple guidelines for sharps safety
and disposal:
- Place used sharps in a thick, puncture-proof, leak-proof container. Make sure that you cannot see through this container, and that it can be tightly sealed.
- Before throwing the sharps container away, seal it with heavy-duty tape, and label the container "DO NOT RECYCLE". Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Following these general guidelines will help to minimize the risk of accidental needle
sticks in your community. For more specific information about sharps disposal in your area,
contact your Walgreens pharmacist or local health department.
