The seat stays in place but it does not push me up like you see in the picture. I would use something like a high chair lifting chair.

The item must be used in a chair that has arms on each side. This should be stated in the web advertising. We had to return it because it did not function on a sofa where we intended to use it.

We bought this for our 92-year-old mother/mother-in-law. Unfortunately, becuase she is short in stature and frail, she was unable to get herself high enough on the seat to allow her to benefit from it. We were able to use it ourselves without a problem, and it worked well, but of course we didn't need it - she did. For her, we would have had to lift her physically to seat her properly on it, and that would be very difficult, and that's not really how it's supposed to work anyway. My husband suffers weakness in his legs. This cushion enables him to get up out of chairs and off the couch. It works great, but the cushion gets a little hard after a couple of hours, and could be softer. Also, it comes in various colors, other than the blue, which the add does not tell you, but the flyer that comes with it, once you get it does. Setting it up, and collapsing it is also a bit difficult. Other than that, it's solved a big problem.

This worked great for my dad but due to his history of back problems and slight build and lack of muscle/fat in his buttocks, it hurt his lower back and caused him to not be able to use it. It was too hard according to the visiting nurse. Probably not a problem for most others.

I use this product for lifting me up off the couch. It works great every time and lifting is automatic. Before useing this product it was a struggle to just lift off my couch. The only thing that can be improved is a softer seat cushing. But putting a pad on top of the products seat solves this minor problem.

The video that accompanied the cushion would not play on two different machines so I had to figure out how to set it up myself. Also the velcro closure to use when carrying the product doesn't hold it closed so I must carry it in its open position.

I bought this for my mother when she was having lower back and knee problems. She was also beginning to experience corpal tunnel problems in her hand from lifting herself out of chairs. Immediately she found herself in much less pain when getting up out of chairs with the aid of her lift cushion. After a few days her hand was beginning to feel better, too.

Only difficulty is that it is a bit bulky/heavy and difficult to collapse to carry from place to place and then set up again since she is currently using a walker. Therefore we are considering buying a second cushion.

This is the 2nd item I've purchased for my elderly parents. They love this product. They even had me order one for one of their friends because I can do so over the internet and they cant.
