The top covering of the pads is not sturdy enough to be able to use several pads at one time. To change the top pad would result in ripping the pad that it is stuck to.

I use these all the time, and have been very happy woth them. I hate throwing away all that paper. But I don't want to have to change my clothes all the time either, or wake up in the night in a huge rush to get to the bathroom. Great for long trips too.
