DO NOT USE -- COLOR IS JET BLACK!!! It's awful! And a simple [...] search would have told me as much -- everyone has had the same results no matter how long they left the product on (as little as 2 minutes). There is nothing brown or natural about it. It is ugly, flat, unnatural-looking jet black!I hope you are reading this before you try the product -- I sure wish I had searched for reviews yesterday :(

This color is not even in the brown family. It is almost blue black it is so dark. No subtle tones, no brown at ALL. It's jet black. Flat, ugly jet black. Not even a pretty black.

well, like everyone else that reviewed this I wish I had read the reviews before I listened to the Clairol helpline. The lady on the phone said because the perfect 10 didn't cover my grey's that they were "resistant" so I left the color on for 40 minutes like it suggested. Now I have witchy black hair - apparently it is not that noticeable, because only some people have noticed, but to me it is awful. I just discovered color oops, I think I'll try L'oreal next, I used to use it in high school in France and everyone here loves it.

I used this over a year ago, so it's not a bad batch. I just saw this and wanted to add my review. I have med/dark brown color treated hair and wanted to keep my color, but just cover the grays that were starting to come out. The color looked natural on the box and I thought it will give my current haircolor an added boost. Well, It turned it black! So dark, that my hair just looked like a big black ink blot stain! Fake looking. I washed it like crazy in the following days but nothing! It just took it's sweet time to fade. I will never use that color again!

I've used Nice and Easy products for the past couple years with good results. Last night I dyed my hair with this color. It turned out Black!!! Since my hair is naturally thick and wavy, it looks like a witches wig left over from Halloween. I vigorously scrubbed my hair last night and this morning, but it's still black. I was hoping that my hair would turn the color on the sample, since my hair is naturally medium brown. I'm so disappointed. I called the Clairol number and the girl was unhelpful. She wanted to send me something to bleach it out! Luckily, whenever I dye my hair, it fades fast. I'm hoping this is the case this time.

I'm with all the other people who's hair is now black. It took me about 6 months to get my hair to a nice shade of brown and all I wanted to do was darken it after it faded for a bit. Well now I'm stuck with black which is where my problems began in the first place. I actually dyed my hair black about two years ago and when I tried to get it striped, the top layer of my hair broke off at the roots and the only thing I could do was dye it back to black after it was left at a really orangey color (at the time i wanted blonde- not brown). Anyways, after having black hair for another year after that I wanted it out and gone so I used this color corrector and it worked out well but took another couple of months to get it to a good shade of brown. Anyways, then this happened and I'm back to black and very angry about it... not sure if my hair could handle being stripped again. [...]

The color on the box was no where near the color on my head. It was dark.....almost blue black!! I've used this brand FOREVER and this must just be a bad batch! Beware!!(I've had a friend use the same boxed color and had very bad results too!)

Like the previous reviewer, this color turned my hair a gothic black. Not at ALL what I was expecting. I am so upset about this and am probably going to call Clairol to see if I can get my hair fixed.

Well, I had the same problem as the other reviewer here. [...] I found the link to write a review here after looking for reviews on this product, because i wanted to know if i was the only one who wound up with a different color than i was expecting. The box says "darkest brown" and nowhere on the box does it show that it could possibly dye your hair black. it all clearly looks dark brown, like the product should be. I've been dying my hair red for about 6 years. i decided that i needed a dramatic change! i sure got one! When i was done dying my hair, I've found that there is not a hint of brown anywhere on my head. my hair is jet black!!! This is not a "graying" problem, either. I am 23 years old with no grays. i only rated it 2 stars instead of 1, because i happen to like the way it looks. but please, do not buy this product unless you're really looking for black, because black is what you'll get!!!

I've used Nice N'Easy for over 20 years and have always loved it - never disappointed no matter what color I tried - and there were several. My hair is now Salt & Pepper gray. I had used a medium brown about 4 months before this experience, and it was a mix of the fading brown and gray when I colored it 8 weeks ago. I decided to try the Darkest Brown 121A to go just a shade darker. What I got was a shock. My hair was utterly - and completely BLACK! Not a shiny black, but a smoky, kind of sooty black. I have very fair skin and the combination made me look like death warmed over. For some reason this color either turned darker on me (my hair is average) or feel this color is somewhat misrepresented by its description - and needs to be renamed soft black or something. The only brown in it at all was after it had faded after 4 weeks and mainly on the sides. My bangs are still smokey black (which usually fade first)
I would suggest only those with non-graying darker natural hair try this very very dark color. Perhaps a better color name would be either 'Blackish-Brown' or the reverse. The conditioners are wonderful as usual, and the hair itself always looks nice. I hope this helps. Thanks. Niki
