Attempted to stop my children's thumb sucking. It didn't deter the sucking at all.
I bought this product for my 2 1/2 year old. I applied the product on her thumb she immediately stuck her finger in her mouth, after a few seconds, she took the finger out her mouth looked at it and put it right back in, like nothing. Then she said this is good, can i have more... This product is supposed to help stop sucking of the fingers not encourage it. It really sucks.

This does not work at all. Get some MAVALA STOP. My 6 year old has tried EVERYTHING and that was the only thing that worked. We tried THUM and the bad taste was very mild and wore off quickly. He actually liked the way it tasted. Don't waste your money!!

I got this for my thumb sucking 4 year old and i got it for myself a nail biter. i tried it on myself first. when i put it on it was painfully cold like sticking your nail in nail polish remover for a long time. then i had my windows down in my car and something flew in my eye i went to rub it and had to pull over b/c my eye was burning. there is no way im putting this on my daughter!! the label says bitter not burn the hell out of your mouth! how awful to do that to a child!
Thought I would give this product a try on my 2 year old since he doesn't like spicy things... big mistake. I first applied the product to my him rather than try it on myself first, and I was estatic! Once the polish was applied, he immediately stuck his fingers in his mouth. His initial reaction was, "it's hot". After a second tasting of his fingers, his reaction was, "this is yummy"... WHAT IN THE WORLD!!! It's worth less than what you'll pay for it.

My 3-yr old kicked the nail biting habit with this product in less than 3 weeks. It definitely works but you must also provide positive reinforcement and include the reasons why you are using this product when using with a toddler. As a parent, you must also play an important part of "kicking the habit". It's not some magic cure that you can paint on and forget it, they have to know why you are using it.

I can't seem to stop biting my nails. So when I compulsively bite them, the taste reminds me to stop and helps me pinpoint my anxiety triggers.
I bought this for both my thumb-sucking three-year-olds, and for myself, an chronic nail-biter.
My kids didn't flinch, it was like I didn't even put it on their fingers. I asked my daughter if it was "good" and she nodded her head, still sucking her thumb.
When I tried it on my nails, I barely noticed a bad taste on my fingers, and even if I did, the stuff has the same ingredients in hot sauce, and I LIKE hot sauce.
The final straw is this stuff washes off very easy, even with a simple scrub after you go to the bathroom. You have to keep applying it every time your hands get web, and that's a pain.
Don't waste your money...

I can't speak for thumb-sucking, but I am a 23-yr-old and I have been biting my fingernails since I was a toddler. I am embarassed at how my nails look and hide them from my co-workers. Thum helped me because I was aware of what a disgusting habit I had, and when I taste it, I immediately remove my fingers from my mouth. Maybe something stronger is needed for children (who will want to find ways to "beat the system,") but for those who really want to quit their habits, I believe this product works incredibly well.
Pfft! You don't even taste anything but your finger! I am so upset I am planning on returning the product it is [$]and its not even worth it.

My son outsmarted myself and the inventor. He simply wet another finger and rubbed the stuff off of his thumb.
My five year old has started experiencing headaches and vomiting since I started using Thum about three days ago
I bought it, tried it, and wouldn't buy it again. My daughter is 16 months and has been sucking her thumb since about six months. I put thum on my fingernail before I put it on hers and it tasted so awful that I was for sure that she wouldn't want it in her mouth. As soon as I put it on she just resumes sucking like there wasn't anything on her fingernail.
My 3 & 1/2 yr old is still sucking her thumb, so I purchased this product unsure if it would work or not. I applied it in 2 coats to her thumbnail, and she didn't even flinch! Now she asks me for her thumb sucking stuff- she thinks it's made for her to suck her thumb. I tried it, and except for maybe a slight pepper taste, i didn't notice anything. Try something else, that's what I have to do now.

It really works and easy to use. I used it on my daughter because she had sucked the skin off of her thumb. We used it 3 times on the nail and she does not suck her thumb any more.
This stuff works! My daughter is almost 5 and she is still sucking her thumb so we tried this and its working. Not sure how long we'll end up using this product for, thumb sucking is a hard habit to break. I guessing like 2 months or so and i think she'll forget about her thumb. I know it must taste pretty badly because if she puts her thumb in her mouth she makes an awful face!! Its a natural reminder thats for sure..I would recomednd this product. The only problem I found is when my child washed her hands the stuff was not as effective. I do end up putting it on more than 4 times a day or so even though the directions say only 2 a day.

Our 3 year old daughter has been sucking her thumb to the point that her teeth are beginning to shift. We purchased THUM at [...] and tried it. I figured "Hey, Cayenne pepper HAS to taste bad." She didn't even flinch. I tried it myself. Tasted like furniture polish, but no spicy reaction whatsoever. Where was the Cayenne? I am particularly sensitive to pepper, and I couldn't taste it at all. [...] So, if you want to pay money for something that doesn't work and the company that makes it isn't available to it's consumers, have at it. But I don't recommend this product for anything.

I couldn't tell I had anything on my fingers.
